FAQs

Frequently Asked Questions

Below are responses to common questions about our Jailbroken Amazon Firesticks and Fire TV Boxes.

Do I need an Amazon account?

Yes, you need to have an Amazon account. The Firestick will not allow you to go past the account registration screen without one. If you already have an Amazon account you can use your account email and password to register. You can apply for a free Amazon account if you don’t have one. It is easiest to do this from a computer instead of using the Firestick to create the account. Even though Amazon will ask for your credit card information it isn’t necessary to enter it. The account login and password alone is all you need.

What is Jailbroken?

Jailbroken on Fire TV and Fire TV stick only means we turn on ADB debugging mode so we can sideload other applications such as Kodi that you can use to further enhance your viewing experience and may contain “FREE” content. It doesn’t mean that you can watch paid apps, Amazon prime videos, Hulu, Netflix and Sling TV, etc. for free. You still need pay for them.

Can I watch all the new movies and Live TVs and sports?

There is a lot of content, however, the answer is NO. All the contents depend on the available sources. You can get a lot, but not all.

Do the addons in Kodi update themselves?

Yes, all the addons are set to automatically update themselves. Eventually some addons will be discontinued and will be replaced with new addons. We include popular addon repositories to make installing them easy. However, if the new addon isn’t in one of the repositories it may be necessary for you to find and follow an online installation guide for the new addon.

Does Amazon Fire Stick update itself?

Yes, the Amazon Fire Stick is setup to automatically update itself. When a new version comes out and you want to update it, please do so. It will not remove the sideloaded applications or change their configuration.

Can I stop my cable TV or satellite service after I buy a jailbroken firestick?

It depends on what you watch on cable and how much you watch. It also depends on the video quality you watch. For the most part yes you can reduce your level of service or cancel it, but it really depends on what you want to watch and the quality you want. The firestick is very good at movies and shows, especially if you pay for a premium service (usually around $50 a year), but it isn’t perfect. You may not want to completely cancel your TV package, however many customers do this after they see how much they can save. It can be difficult to find local news stations on the firestick and if you watch a lot of local news you may want to keep a basic cable subscription. Depending on your area, you might get local news as well as other stations on the firestick especially if you are in a large city. You may also get local stations over the air with an antenna if you are trying to cut the cord completely and cannot find those stations on the firestick.

How to find which Kodi addons have the content I want?

Most Kodi addons are setup so that it is easy to find what you want. They are separated by sections such as TV Shows and Movies. There are more specific categories available under each of these sections. For example, if you wish to find a TV show you like you can find it by going under the TV Show section in most addons and then select “Search” and search for the show you want.

My remote is dead or not working!

Sometime the remote will disconnect with your stick, you need hold the home button at least 30 seconds to reconnect. If it’s still not working after this then check the batteries on the remote.
Your remote can (rarely) disconnect itself from the Fire Stick either due to bad/dead batteries, or a disconnection. I highly recommend first checking the batteries and then holding down the home button for at least 30 seconds for it to reconnect and link to your fire stick.
If it’s not your batteries, unplug your fire stick power cable, take out your batteries from the remote. Re-plug the fire stick and let it load. After you are back on the home screen, put your batteries back in and hold down the home button for at least 30 seconds to reconnect.

What do I do if my application is frozen?

Press the “Home” button to get to the Amazon Home Page > select Settings > select Applications > select Manage Installed Applications, then find application that is frozen, and you will see the Force stop menu, press it to terminate the application. There is no indicator to let you know the application has been stopped. From the same menu you can relaunch the application which should now be working. Kodi can freeze occasionally if it has a lot of updates to do and this procedure can be necessary.

How do I turn off my firestick?

The only way to turn off your Amazon fire TV stick or Fire TV Box is to unplug it. They are designed to go to sleep after about 20 minutes of inactivity. You can also manually put it to sleep by holding the “Home” button on your remote for 5 seconds which will launch the Quick Access menu, then select the Sleep option. To wake up the firestick or box, press any button on the remote.
